In Wilson v. City of Lafayette, Andrew Nathan and Marni Nathan Kloster won summary judgment in favor of a police officer related to the use of a taser. The firm was successful in upholding the trial court’s summary judgment order at the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and successfully opposed a writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court, which was denied in October of 2013. The lawsuit raised numerous issues regarding the deployment of tasers in law enforcement and the right of next of kin to recover for a family member’s alleged civil rights violations. The trial court accepted the firm’s legal arguments on qualified immunity and next of kin suits.
